In 2020, a startling upset to the Alberta Gymnastics community occurred; the celebrated University of Calgary International Classic, known in competitive gymnastics circles as the Jurassic Classic, was canceled... permanently.
Up until this point, Calgary had always been a central hub for Men's Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) in Canada. And without a big competition to attract athletes from other places, we knew Southern Alberta would lose this status and our athletes would suffer because of it.
We knew how to run a good meet, our kids had the drive, and we wanted to honour their dedication and commitment to excellence. So we, the parents and coaches of these exceptional young men, decided to step up.
The inaugural Grizzly Classic, hosted in 2023, was attended by 263 athletes representing Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. Building off of this success, we decided to create the kind of meet our kids have always dreamed of attending.
We are committed to providing elite Canadian MAG athletes and judges with international
competition experience, right here in Alberta. Our hope is that this will reduce travel expenses, create opportunities for rising athletes to connect with Olympic-level athletes and judges, and propel the Canadian MAG community forward for decades to come... right here in Southern Alberta.
The 2024 Grizzly classic was attended by over 320 athletes from Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. As well as Junior athletes from the Canadian and U.S.A. National Teams.
This year the 2025 Grizzly classic will be attended by over 420 athletes from Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. AND, we are delighted to share that we will also be hosting Junior athletes from the Canadian, U.S.A. and Mexico National Teams.
We're here to show our kids that we see how hard they work, how tough they are and how much we believe in them. This is a show you won't want to miss with even more in store this year. So come show your support to these incredible athletes.

It is my honour to serve as the Meet Director for the 2025 Grizzly Classic. Following the huge success of our first two Grizzly Classics, held in 2023 and 2024, we are thrilled to announce that the Grizzly Classic has now become a highly anticipated international event held in Alberta. Like last year, your kids will compete in the same arena with many of the same judges as Junior MAG athletes from Team Canada, and Team USA.
Our dedicated team, comprised entirely of unpaid volunteers, many of whom dedicate countless hours per week to their GC duties, is working tirelessly to secure a competition experience worthy of our athletes.
We are committed to providing the best viewing experience in-person and online, something that has never been provided outside of a national competition here in Canada. Yep, that's right, every single session, including P1 littles, will be live-streamed on the Grizzly Classic YouTube channel.
Our singular goal is to give back to our kids. We're doing this first and foremost by putting on a fantastic show. We are bringing in the National Junior Team athletes from Canada and the USA to compete and inspire our kids for years to come. We are supporting our National FIG Judges, so they don’t have to travel as much to get accreditation for the work they do. We are bringing in Olympic winners to give out awards so our up and coming Olympians can get to meet their heroes. Lastly, we are running a budget so lean, people who lived through the Dirty 30s would call it scrappy. That's right; every cent above what we need to run the event will support our athletes directly.
The Grizzly Classic promises to be the pinnacle event your athletes attend because our one goal is to make sure that every single kid walks away from the GC knowing that we, their parents, coaches, and nation, are JUST. THAT. PROUD.
Welcome to the Grizzly Classic.
It is my honour to serve as the Meet Director for the 2024 Grizzly Classic. Following the huge success of our first inaugural Grizzly Classic, held in 2023, we are thrilled to announce that the Grizzly Classic has now become the only event sanctioned by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) in North America. You read that correctly. Your kids will see athletes that are judged at the Olympic level right here in Alberta.

Welcome to the Grizzly Classic.
We can't wait to welcome the 35 athletes who are traveling over 3700 km on a 7-hour-long flight to compete at the Grizzly Classic.
We are the ONLY FIG-sanctioned event in North America this year. This means that international gymnastics teams can compete at the Grizzly Classic.
